One of these things

“One of these things” is a story of romance and of commitment; commitment that has lasted more ten years through successes and triumphs as well as tragedy and hardship. It is a comparison of three long term couples thoughts and feelings about their relationships, in particularly what commitment means to them.

The film also contrasts statements made during the same sex marriage debate and looks at how the statements made by the opposition to same sex marriage makes a case that everyone has a right to share a loving, committed relationship that is recognized and respected.

By focusing on similar themes – themes of commitment, support, team work and recognition, the couples shared values and experiences are to be drawn out. The couples will also respond to a number of quotes from the Prime Minister, John Howard; Members of the National Marriage Forum; and anti gay rights campaigners including Major General (Ret) WB “Digger” James and Bill Muehlenberg.

The overarching question being posed in this film can be brought down to this, “Regardless of who is involved in the relationship, do we all share common ground on what relationships and commitment mean?”

This film was made as part of the my Certificate III is Screen course at Open Channel. I cant say that its the best thing I have ever made, its a little turgid actually, but it is the first film I have made.

This is the introduction to the film, just to give you a taste. To play the clip, roll your mouse pointer over the bottom and the video controls should appear.

This is a largish file, so depending on your bandwidth it might take some time to load. If you are not seeing anything above here, you may need to get the latest flash player from Macromedia.
