Film
In 1994, I was lucky enough to be close friends with a young designer by the name of Tim Chappel. He got a gig working on an Australian film that, while quirky, wasnt expected to be that big a deal. The budget was extremely tight, as they always are, and I helped out a bit here and there - running errands, rounding up extras and wrangling drag queens.
The film was Pricilla and the rest, as they say, is histroy.
For me, it was my first opportunity to see how a film set worked and to get a sense of the industry. I must have gotten a very skewed impression, since to this day I still think it is a fabulous place to work.
A few years later, with some stage directing under my belt, I decided to explore film as a career path. I did a couple of short courses at MetroTV in Sydney but was offered an IT contract in Hong Kong. For some personal reasons it felt like getting away from Sydney, away from the familiar and the know, would be a good idea so i took the opportunity.
Six years later and I was back in Australia having been carried to Hong Kong, Melbourne, London, San Francisco and LA by the corporate conveyor belt. Now it was finally time to explore this career direction I had been wishing for all of these years.
