If homeopathy s so effective, and its adherents so convinced of its universal appeal as an approach, why cant it be used as the basis for funding? Particularly funding homeopathic treatments.

Take one penny and sequentially and repeatedly dissolve it into a glass of water until it has the same effect as £1, 000, 000.

Seems fair.

I discovered in the mail this week, buried in the recent treaty between the Royal Mail and the Postal workers Union, a snippet that was of passing interest. A detail that seems to have whizzed past most people attention.

Specifically, the long standing clause limiting the amount of junk mail that can be delivered is being, if not scrapped, then watered down, meaning that we could all be about to be having trouble getting our front doors open for the snow drifts of “personal offers” and pizza menus.

Marvellous.

Now there is a way to get yourself off the junk mail list, google it if you are interested, but what interested me in this is that Royal Mail is largely dependant on the revenue from junk mail delivery to remain solvent. Now while I dont actually like junk mail, given I would like the lack of the Royal Mail SIGNIFICANTLY more, this gave me pause. The bright digital utopian future of the paperless world is not with us yet, and probably wont be until we develop site to site transporter technology. So until that day, real things will need to be shoved through meatspace. While that has to happen, organisations like the Royal Mail have an important role to play.

Personally I would rather be giving my money to an effectively not-for-profit organisation rather than, say, Richard Branson or that little man from Ryanair.

But how big a deal is it, really, to sort and throw out the unwanted advertising? If you do it each day, not so much really.

To be honest, there is a small evil pleasure. Each time I throw out those badly designed eyesores, I can see pennies from some mindless advertiser washing down the drain. they’re advertising messages are not getting into my brain, they are waisting their effort.

So for the time being, I am not going to block junk mail. I am going to do a little to help Royal Mail stay afloat and sort the unwanted advertising straight to the recycling.

In March this year, Jake Fahri was convicted of the murder of Jimmy Mizen, 16, bled to death when an artery in his neck was severed as he was hit by a glass dish in a bakery n May 2008.

To round things out, now apparently Mercer has attacked Fahri in the exercise yard at HMP Moorland in Doncasterwith a pair of tweezers which had been sharpened and bound with tape to create a makeshift knife.

Do I need to comment any more on this? I think not.

Thanks to the BBC for the details.

Ok. EW!!!!

Lets face it. She’s been buried a while, so unless someone did a better job of embalming her than they did of Lenin, she is probably not it a particularly appealing state by now.

But its worse than just digging up a dead old* lady, because what this really comes down to is a squabble over tourism revenue. Follow me on this one.

Nun (now dead) did great things. Said dead Nun will turn 100 next August – well, it will be 100 years since she was born, but you know what I mean. She is likely to be made a saint, or canonised as they call it – which to be honest sounds to me like they will be shooting her out of a big gun. That can’t really be that respectful, or good for her. Even if she was alive it could be messy, but dead? Well lets just hope someone has wet ones.

That aside, now Saint Said-Dead-Nun, will have a sea of god botherers coming to pray at her graveside, asking for her intervention with god in their ailments, problems, business ventures, gambling – you know, the usual thing people pray about. And here is where I feel the sandal hits the pavement.

Where you have pilgrims you have not only a bunch of people looking for answers outside themselves (rather than inside where the answers are much more likely to lie) you also have retail opportunities.

I don’t recall anyone running forward arms outstretched to snatch the corpse of Said-Dead-Nun from India when there was just an expensive state funeral involved, but now there is an opportunity to sell tasteful things like Mother Teresa bobble heads, its all kicking off.

If Albania, who are making the fuss now, just want to honour Mother Teresa and pay respect to the things she did, where her dead bodies lies should not matter. Spend the money and the energy helping the poor, rather than having a diplomatic incident over it. Think about it for a second – what would SHE have wanted?

*are dead people still old?

Only here could a self proclaimed transvestite suggest running for office and it be no big deal.

New Zealand of course has a transsexual politician, and the US had George Bush, who was something else entirely. But here in the UK, with its long tradition of men dressing up as women, its good to see that the nations leadership may be come just that little bit more representative.

And that’s in flats, apparently he wears shoes with a 2″ rise in them, getting him to a towering 5’7″.

At a recent photo opportunity at a factory in France, apparently the crowd was hand picked to ensure that none was taller than Le President.

On a related theme, M. Sarkozy was in a group photograph at the G8 Summit and in the full version of the picture can be seen standing on tippy toes.

Nothing wrong with short, Monsieur, if you accept it. Short guys can be tres chaud and a heap of fun.

See the drop bear for reference.
