In 1994, flushed with the success of Go West, and shamelessly riding of the coat tails of Priscilla, I managed to talk the Australian Film Institute into letting me direct on of the shows in the annual awards ceremony.

Without any guidanc from the AFI as to what film was likely to win best picture that year – Murials Wedding and Priscilla were both nominated – I went with my preference and did a leggy drag spectacular to the Weather Girls "Success".

Given the current production values of the AFI Awards show, its a little amazing to think that I actually talked my way into it – and carried it off. But I did, and it worked. And at the after party, the drag queens were mobbed by film stars wanting their pictures taken.

This is a clip from the start of the show, just to give you a taste. To play the clip, roll your mouse pointer over the bottom and the video controls should appear.
