Whats Spinning – Birdhouse in your Soul

I love this song. Its weird and romantic at the same time.

Natch.

Oh and its in Pushing Daisies

Birdhouse in your Soul
They Might Be Giants

I'm your only friend
I'm not your only friend
But I'm a little glowing friend
But really I'm not actually your friend
But I am

Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch
Who watches over you
Make a little birdhouse in your soul
Not to put too fine a point on it
Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet
Make a little birdhouse in your soul

I have a secret to tell
From my electrical well
It's a simple message and I'm leaving out the whistles and bells
So the room must listen to me
Filibuster vigilantly
My name is blue canary one note* spelled l-i-t-e
My story's infinite
Like the Longines Symphonette it doesn't rest

Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch
Who watches over you
Make a little birdhouse in your soul
Not to put too fine a point on it
Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet
Make a little birdhouse in your soul

I'm your only friend
I'm not your only friend
But I'm a little glowing friend
But really I'm not actually your friend
But I am

There's a picture opposite me
Of my primitive ancestry
Which stood on rocky shores and kept the beaches shipwreck free
Though I respect that a lot
I'd be fired if that were my job
After killing Jason off and countless screaming Argonauts
Bluebird of friendliness
Like guardian angels its always near

Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch
Who watches over you
Make a little birdhouse in your soul
Not to put too fine a point on it
Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet
Make a little birdhouse in your soul

(and while you're at it
Keep the nightlight on inside the
Birdhouse in your soul)

Not to put too fine a point on it
Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet
Make a little birdhouse in your soul

Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch (and while you're at it)
Who watches over you (keep the nightlight on inside the)
Make a little birdhouse in your soul (birdhouse in your soul)

Not to put too fine a point on it
Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet
Make a little birdhouse in your soul

Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch (and while you're at it)
Who watches over you (keep the nightlight on inside the)
Make a little birdhouse in your soul (birdhouse in your soul)

Not to put too fine a point on it
Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet
Make a little birdhouse in your soul

Pushing Wikis

You may or may not have come across my delight in the TV program, "Pushing Daises". It is both visually and narratively beautiful, and endlessly romantic. I really love it.

I was thrilled to find out that it had returned for a second season/the second half of its first season. I was however less thrilled to find out its been canned and wont be continuing.

To be honest, its a fairy tale and should actually conclude with a happily-ever-after. It should end with a resolution giving the good their reward and, and the wicked their just deserts.

Whatever the ending, I will miss it when it goes, until then I am loving it.

I did however note something in the Wikipedia entry for it, right at the end. It mentions that there is a religious story that closely mirrors the show. Apparently in the 4th or 5th century, Severus – Bishop of Naples brought someone back from the dead to solve a fraud case.

If you have seen the show, you will recognise the humour in the Wikipedia entry, where someone has used the like "the facts are these" to explain the case.

If you have not seen the show, this will be meaningless to you – but then if you have not seen the show you haven't really lived.

Whats Spinning – I have Confidence

Robert looks atarted at the prospect of cheering the fuck upThis morning brings a change in musical tone. A little less mournful, somewhat camper.

I am not singing along, but if I did it would alarmingly be in the same key as Julie Andrews.

Cough, cough.

What will this day be like? I wonder.
What will my future be? I wonder.
It could be so exciting to be out in the world, to be free
My heart should be wildly rejoicing
Oh, what's the matter with me?

I've always longed for adventure
To do the things I've never dared
And here I'm facing adventure
Then why am I so scared

A captain with seven children
What's so fearsome about that?

Oh, I must stop these doubts, all these worries
If I don't I just know I'll turn back
I must dream of the things I am seeking
I am seeking the courage I lack

The courage to serve them with reliance
Face my mistakes without defiance
Show them I'm worthy
And while I show them
I'll show me

So, let them bring on all their problems
I'll do better than my best
I have confidence they'll put me to the test
But I'll make them see I have confidence in me

Somehow I will impress them
I will be firm but kind
And all those children (Heaven bless them!)
They will look up to me

And mind me with each step I am more certain
Everything will turn out fine
I have confidence the world can all be mine
They'll have to agree I have confidence in me

I have confidence in sunshine
I have confidence in rain
I have confidence that spring will come again
Besides which you see I have confidence in me

Strength doesn't lie in numbers
Strength doesn't lie in wealth
Strength lies in nights of peaceful slumbers
When you wake up — Wake Up!

It tells me all I trust I lead my heart to
All I trust becomes my own
I have confidence in confidence alone
(Oh help!)

I have confidence in confidence alone
Besides which you see I have confidence in me!

Whats a Brass Ring?

A brass ring is a small grabbable ring that a dispenser presents to a carousel rider during the course of a ride. Usually there are a large number of iron rings and one brass one, or just a few. It takes some dexterity to grab a ring from the dispenser as the carousel rotates. The iron rings can be tossed at a target as an amusement.

Typically, getting the brass ring gets the rider some sort of prize when presented to the operator. The prize often is a free repeat ride.

Comments Borked Apparently

Apparently the new design has screwed up the comment system, and needs seeing to. I will try to get to it this weekend.

I have been meaning to rip out a bunch of over engineering, but haven't gotten around to it – but hopefully now shall.

Thanks A.

Advice to tourists in London 001

If you are a tourist in London I would recommend avoiding travelling on the Tube weekdays between 530 and 700 pm.

Not to put too fine a point on it, Londoners* are now permitted, by Mayoral order, to beat you senseless with your travel guides and day packs.

It was a long trip home tonight, and after being savaged by a Dropbear, I am no longer a nice person. Don't let the sunny exterior fool you.

*yes, this now includes me

Whats Spinning – Have you Ever?

Little Black girl pop – recently covered by Westlife. Which should tell you all you need to know about boy bands.

Have You Ever?
Brandy / Westlife

[Chorus]

Have you ever loved somebody so much It makes you cry
Have you ever needed something so bad
You can't sleep at night
Have you ever tried to find the words
But they don't come out right

Have you ever, have you ever Have you ever been in love Been in love so bad
You'd do anything to make them understand
Have you ever had someone steal your heart away
You'd give anything to make them feel the same
Have you ever searched for words to get you in their heart
But you don't know what to say
And you don't know where to start
[Chorus]

Have you ever found the one
You've dreamed of all of your life
You'd do just about anything to look into their eyes
Have you finally found the one you've given your heart to
Only to find that one won't give their heart to you
Have you ever closed your eyes and
Dreamed that they were there
And all you can do is wait for the day when they will care
[Chorus]

What do I gotta do to get you in my arms baby
What do I gotta say to get to your heart
To make you understand how I need you next to me
Gotta get you in my world
'Cuz baby I can't sleep
[Chorus]

Internet as a replacement for a private life

My mother has accused me at times of being to public with my private life – particularly in some of my blog postings. This came past my attention today and leaves my efforts well in the dust

To be honest I am actually a little sad and empathetic for the poor woman who is publicly finding out about her husbands possible indiscretions.

Good luck Susan.

Ok. I an coming to recognize I have an addiction.

Yes folks, you read it here. I am admitting it oir the world to read – or at least the 4 people and 87 bots that read my blog with any regularity (yes I know who you are). I am addicted to iTunes, specifically the purchase of TV and Movies.

There was a snaffu* with my US credit card on the weekend and as a result I was declined the rental of "Clone Wars"** until I sorted it out. I felt I'll, I had the shakes, I couldn't focus. Classic cold turkey.

Tragic really.

You would think I could come up with something more interesting, wouldn't you.

K, T and E, my directors from film school would tell me that this is likely to be the cinematic gods protecting my pschy from a heinous travestey, but I would beg to disagree. I was permitted to rent (ok purchase) the recent Brendan Fraser (not aging well) "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" – no argument.

This is a film of epic predictability and shakey digital effects which stays in the memory only because of a glancing connection to a Science Fiction and literary classic. While I wasn't actually scarred by watching it, I was cushioned by a mildly dazing hang over, pizza and a could of "glasses" of spicey Italian Pinot Gris.

I did also place myself immediately under** a doctors care, which really helped.

*Namely I didn't pay the bill on time

**Technically it was actually over rather than under, but same same
